Sign of the Times: For Want of a Light Touch

I was standing in a cashier’s line today when the woman in front of me started to swipe her card.

“This thing doesn’t work! It should be a touch screen! It’s supposed to work with a touch! ” she yanked at the pen and started stabbing the pad. And nailing it. And then pummeling. Over and over. “Touch! Touch! Touch!”

“Don’t break it!” The cashier’s eyes widened and she glanced at the rest of the customers. We readied to dive for cover.

“It works fine with the pen,” the cashier said. “It’s the way of the world, now.”

The woman shot back: “Don’t be snippy.”
